Inter-Island Environment Meeting 2022

The States of Alderney and the Alderney Wildlife Trust were delighted to be able to host the Inter-Island Environment Meeting (IIEM) 2022 - the 6th time of hosting the IIEM for Alderney.

This year’s event was made possible thanks to the support of KPMG in the Crown Dependencies, States of Alderney and the Alderney Wildlife Trust through Charles Asprey, and the event was hosted in the Georgian House Hotel

The Theme for 2022

IIEM 2022’s theme was sharing knowledge and developing best practice in ecological, environmental and conservation science.

The Aim of IIEM

The IIEM was founded to enable Government bodies, NGOs, environmental managers and individuals to discuss the status of the islands’ environments and help plan for the future. Given the dramatic and rapid global and environmental changes we have seen, the need to communicate, as well as seeking commonality and mutual support, is of ever-growing importance to small independent island jurisdictions.

This years IIEM was one of the busiest and most progressive ever to be held on Alderney.  The hosting team are busy finalising outcomes from the various workshops, as well as formatting the recordings from the event to add to this page.

A resolution from the delegates present on the final day, representing as many as 25 governmental and non-governmental organisations, was recorded.  Its focus was to create a coalition of environmental organisations across the Channel Islands, IoM and other partner islands.  This coalition should, it is hoped, coordinate and co-fund environmental research, conservation and restoration projects which span multiple islands.

The hosting team will be putting this resolution alongside other outcomes back to the delegates for refinement and to establish how to progress the various aims.

We are also delighted to announce that the Island of Sark, through the Société Sercquaise, has offered to host IIEM2023 on the 28th and 29th September.
