Marine life in Alderney's waters

Being a small island, Alderney is surrounded by marine life. Much of this can be viewed at low tides in rockpools. Some of the species you might find in the rockpools are cushion stars, hermit crabs and star ascidian.

Please note: if you do go rockpooling please be very careful when walking across the rocks, for your own safety and the safety of wildlife. If you lift any rocks to see what is underneath please place them back where you found them - very carefully. Always leave nature in the state you found it in.

When looking out to sea you might also be lucky enough to see some of the marine mammals or seabirds off our coast. We would love to hear about any sightings you may have.
