Terrestrial Wildlife

Coastal grass and heath in flowerCoastal grass and heath in flower, one of Alderney's most diverse and beautiful habitats

Alderney's diversity of wildlife stems from its location so close to the continent and thousands of years of human occupation, which has shaped a very cultural landscape. With over 300 species of bird, 800 species of moth and butterfly and as many as 1,000 species of flowering plant, few places the size of Alderney can lay claim to be so rich in wildlife.
