Latin name: Spiranthes spiralis

At less than 15cm high, Autumn Lady’s-tresses is Alderney’s smallest orchid. Flowering from late August to early September, with creamy white flowers with a green spot deep inside which are arranged in spirals up the stem (its Latin name is Spiranthes spiralis).  It grows in calcareous (containing lime or being chalky) coastal grassland such as Longis Common, Mannez Garenne, Houmet Herbe and the gardens around Picaterre and Platte Saline.
