There are around 20,000 species of Ichneumon wasp (also known as Ichneumon fly). They generally have slender bodies and antennae, which are at least half as long as the body, composed of a minimum of 16 segments. The females lay their eggs in the larvae or pupae of other insects such as butterflies, moths and beetles and different varieties of Ichneumon will parasitize specific species of insect.
