Green Tiger Beetle

Green Tiger BeetleGreen Tiger Beetle

Latin name: Cicindela campestris

This ground beetle is Britain’s commonest tiger beetle. It likes sunny sites in areas with bare ground and little vegetation and the adults can generally be seen from April until September. It is a ferocious predator, hence its name, rather than a plant eater, catching other invertebrates in small pits that it digs in the ground. It is also a fast runner and flies with a buzzing sound when disturbed. Places to find it in Alderney include Bonne Terre, Trois Vaux and Houmet Herbe.
