New Zealand Pygmyweed on Mannez Pond
Alderney's exposed location - suffering raging tides and blustery Atlantic winds, coupled with its diverse geography and deep social history has shaped a rich and thriving wildlife both in the sea and upon land.
Alderney, lying just 13km from the Cape of Cherbourg and the continent which spralls beyond it, is a very different habitat, yet familiar, British Island.
Whilst intensely British in its moden society which led to series of massive quarries which ring the island and its historic links with the Dutchy of Normandy and before that the Roman Empire, have shaped Alderney's landscape and wildlife.
