Managing site for nature
Habitats are the building blocks of our ecosystems. Conserving the diverse range of habitats found on Alderney is vital to protecting the wildlife that lives there. You can find our more about specific projects on our conservation projects page.
The AWT’s challenge is maintaining the diversity of wildlife, with large areas of the island having fallen out of traditional agricultural management, without direct involvement from government. Our focus is primarily on conserving habitats within the island’s nature reserves and Internationally Important Wetland (Ramsar site), but a significant amount of effort is spent protecting small isolated habitats. The AWT also campaigns for government to adopt clear conservation policy and regulation to better protect our island’s very special habitats.
