Latin name: Synansphecia muscaeformis

Forewing length: 6-8mm.

A resident of Britain but scarce and mainly restricted to western coasts it is actually locally frequent in the Channel Islands. It occurs on rocky coastlines and in shallow valleys leading to beaches during its one generation of early June to late July.

Identifying feature: The smallest of the clearwings with 3 (or occasionally 4) narrow yellowish white bands on the abdomen. The wings, as expected, are clear but with a dark brown border with pale edging.
