Peacock's Tail

Latin name: Padina pavonica

This delicate seaweed species grows to 10 cm and is white in colour due to the presence of calcium carbonate deposits. The fronds are thin, flat lobes which grow into funnel shapes over time. The texture is leathery with hairs.

Habitat: Found across the mid to lower regions of rocky shorelines and within rockpools.

Status: This species is frequently found in the Channel Islands and South-West coastline of the UK.
