Alderney West Coast and Burhou Islands "Ramsar Site"

Making use of the site

Angling is a common activity within the site.

Please take time when you enter the site, either on foot or by boat, to dwell on the concept of “Wise Use” and in doing so help to ensure the future of this Site. With this in mind here are a few guidelines:

  • Do Not Litter!
  • When rock pooling please replace rocks in their original position.
  • Please keep disturbance of wildlife to a minimum, if you see an injured animal contact the Alderney Animal Welfare Tel: 01481 822610.
  • Never abandon line, net or weights when fishing.
  • Please adhere to Alderney law over catch size.
  • Burhou is closed to all landings between 15th March & 27thJuly

Do not disturb birds on the water or on land and please restrict your boat speed when near bird colonies.

Boats in close to the puffin colony on Burhou can, if not careful, cause considerable disturbance to nesting birds. Keep your distance and do not scare puffins off the water.
