History of the Alderney Wildlife Trust - 2000

Feb 2000
States of Alderney appoint a Conservation Officer. Principal tasks of the post are to draft Land Use Planning Policy for the Designated Area (Green Belt) and, in light of the recent demise of dairy farming on Alderney, to identify key threats to Alderney’s natural environment and advise States of Alderney on how to respond.

30/07/00
The Alderney Conservation Volunteers (“ACV”) formed by a group of enthusiastic local residents with a desire to see Alderney’s natural environment conserved.

07/10/00
ACV membership reaches 40.

06/12/00
Public Meeting is held in the Island Hall to discuss the proposed Land Use Plan for the Designated Area (Green Belt). This States of Alderney’s building development policy document also describes, for the first time, the concept of “Protected Areas”, designated because of their wildlife resources.
