Alderney Wildlife Trust 5 Year Plan

This page is under construction

Mission of the Alderney Wildlife Trust

“to preserve biodiversity by challenging people to gain a better understanding of their island”

Aim of the Alderney Wildlife Trust

“a sustainable Alderney, where people and biodiversity co-exist”

Objectives of the Alderney Wildlife Trust

  • to study and understand Alderney wildlife in all its guises
  • to preserve and enhance Alderney’s biodiversity
  • to inspire people about Alderney’s natural resources
  • to establish an Environmental Record Centre for the island, accessible to all
  • to ensure scientific rigour in all its work
  • to secure resources to ensure the attainment of its aims and objectives

Operation of the Alderney Wildlife Trust
We have been working hard to identify the mechanisms through which the Trust will be able to tackle its Aims and Objectives over the next 5 years.  These have been distilled down to the four areas of operation listed below.

These are dynamic and interact at every level but for the purposes of this consultation we have dealt with them separately.  Each area has its own panel or panels:

Something that has become increasingly apparent over the last 5 years is how little information and understanding we have as to Alderney’s huge environmental resource.  The exact number of mammals on Alderney isn’t known, in the last 16 months alone the number of identified species of moth and butterfly has doubled and this is just the start of the challenge.

Because of this the Trust will make the development of Environmental Awareness the key operational goal of the next five years, so please remember this as you read through the displays.
